SINGAPORE - Singapore Press Holdings' financial daily The Business Times (BT) has received an Award for Excellence at the 38th edition of the Best of Newspaper Design competition organised by the Society of News Design (SND).

The Business Times won in the category for Redesigns Overall Newspaper, after creating a new look and format for its weekend edition that debuted on Oct 8 last year, when BT celebrated its 40th anniversary.

This is the third straight year that BT has won an award at the annual competition. It picked up an Award for Excellence in 2015 for the redesign of BT that year, which was part of a major relaunch across its newspaper, website, tablet and smartphone apps.

In 2016, BT infographics editor Simon Ang picked up an Award for Excellence in the Editorial Cartoons category, for his tribute "A silent vigil for Charlie Hebdo", in reference to the gun attack at the office of French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in 2015.

Based in the United States, SND is an international non-profit organisation for news media professionals and visual communicators that create print, web, mobile publications and products.

Said BT editor Wong Wei Kong: "The Business Times Weekend revamp was a ground-breaking project for us, both in terms of new design and content. It has been very well-received by readers, and we are very glad that it has won us industry recognition too."
