SINGAPORE – With the O-level results due to be released soon, many of you may be planning to attend the suite of open houses organised by polytechnics, junior colleges and institutes of higher learning. 

For those considering polytechnic as an option, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming polytechnic open houses and what’s new at each poly in the 2025/2026 academic year, which starts in April 2025.

Singapore Polytechnic

Singapore Polytechnic’s open house will also have campus tours, co-curricular tryouts, and academic talks.

Don’t Miss:

Singapore Polytechnic’s (SP) flagship Industry and Innovation showcase features projects from final-year students across themes of sustainability, digital transformation and academic innovation. Some notable projects include interactive virtual-reality games that assist in elderly rehabilitation, crispy snacks made from upcycled soya by-products and eco-friendly bricks made from recycled plastics.

What’s New:

Business Essentials Through Action (Beta) programme

Starting in the 2025/26 academic year, SP’s School of Business will be launching its signature Business Essentials Through Action (Beta) programme for all first-year students. Developed in collaboration with the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre and supported by Mentoring SG,

the programme gives first-year students a chance to run their own start-ups

.

As part of the programme, each student will receive $1,000 of seed funding to develop ventures aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. They will also receive mentorship from industry experts.

Those interested in the programme can visit the Beta Showcase and Experience at SP’s School of Business during the open house. The projects on display include an award-winning student-run colour analysis studio, crocheted keepsakes made from pre-loved T-shirts and air fresheners made from recycled coffee grounds.

New electrical and electronic engineering modules

Diploma in electrical and electronic engineering students will get the opportunity to take new modules focusing on solar energy, electric vehicle technology and energy management as part of the programme’s new sustainable energy specialisation introduced in 2024.

Nanyang Polytechnic

The exclusive tours of the Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) School of Design and Media’s new virtual production setup, the BeyondReality studio, are a must for visitors. The studio is equipped with motion capture cameras, a green screen cyclorama and a LED volume screen used in Hollywood films like The Mandalorian.

All students from the School of Business Management and the School of Design and Media will have lessons in the BeyondReality studio as part of their curriculum.

Visitors can explore the BeyondReality studio and participate in a student-created augmented reality adventure during studio tours taking place at 11am on Jan 9 and 4pm on Jan 11.

NYP’s five other schools will also be hosting various events. These include hands-on experience with a flight simulator at the School of Engineering and a dexterity challenge for dental precision at the School of Health and Social Science.

What’s New:

Two new diploma programmes

NYP’s School of Engineering will launch two new diplomas in the 2025/26 academic year.

The diploma in aerospace engineering targets students interested in the aviation industry and aerospace engineering industry, and offers specialisations in both mechanical and avionics in aerospace engineering.

The diploma in sustainability in engineering with business focuses on the implementation of sustainable solutions in both the business and engineering aspects of business operations. Graduates from this diploma can take on jobs such as process and product engineers.

All graduates from this diploma will receive a Certificate of Competency co-issued by NYP and partner organisation Schneider Electric that will recognise them as experts in tackling sustainability challenges in business operations, product development and process design.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic

Don’t Miss:

The Bites and Vibes Festival, a bazaar where visitors can interact with Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s (NP) budding student entrepreneurs, is a highlight of the open house. From 10am to 6pm on Jan 11, student vendors will be selling a wide range of goods from K-pop merchandise to vintage fashion.

Visitors can also expect to see a showcase of NP students’ projects, such as an augmented reality experience prepared by School of Film and Media Studies students. Academic and career-related workshops and talks will be organised for the duration of the open house.

What’s New:

11 courses revamped

A total of 11 courses are being revamped for the 2025/26 academic year. An example is the mass communication course, which now features the study of generative artificial intelligence in media sectors as part of its curriculum.

New minors in robotics and innovation and sustainable care

NP is expanding its Personalised Learning Pathway (PLP) Minors programme, which allows NP students to graduate with specialised minors on top of their diplomas. The minors programme was rolled out in 2021 but starting from the 2025 enrolment, students will have two new minors to choose from: robotics and innovation and sustainable care.

  • A free two-way shuttle bus service between King Albert Park MRT station and NP will be available on Jan 11 from 9.30am to 6pm at 15-minute intervals.

Temasek Polytechnic (TP)

When: Jan 9, 10am to 6.30pm

Jan 11, 9.15am to 6.15pm

Don’t Miss:

TP’s signature Evening Fest will showcase TP’s vibrant campus life with complimentary food and beverage offerings, giveaways and performances by students and local artistes such as Singaporean singer-songwriter Glenn Yong. The event will take place from 4.30pm to 8.30pm on Jan 10.

What’s New:

New facilities

For students pursuing a diploma in culinary and catering management, the refreshed Temasek Culinary Academy provides specialised facilities that include a chocolate studio, indoor and outdoor farms and training restaurants that cater to both formal and informal dining.

For those interested in chemical engineering, TP has launched the Chemical Pilot Plant in June 2024, Singapore’s first such industry-standard facility at an institute of higher learning. Students will be able to gain additional practical experience at the plant by converting waste cooking oil into biodiesel and exploring wastewater treatment.

The School of Informatics and IT has launched Future X, a digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) centre, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS experts at FutureX will co-supervise projects alongside TP staff, co-develop curriculum on areas like generative AI for full-time and part-time courses, and provide technical training. Students can also attain AWS certifications that profile their tech expertise.

New electives in sustainability

The TP School of Engineering has introduced two sustainability-focused elective clusters for students interested in careers in green industries. Comprising two to four subjects each, TP says these electives are designed to cultivate the mindset and skills needed to develop and implement sustainability initiatives.

Republic Polytechnic

The two-hour Designing Your Life workshops will be held twice daily at 10.30am and 2.30pm during the Republic Polytechnic (RP) open house. They aim to help prospective students discover suitable diploma options at RP based on their interests and personalised academic and career paths. There are only 30 slots per session, so be sure to sign up

here

to avoid missing out.

Guided tours of schools and campus facilities will be organised for visitors during the open house. There will also be performances by RP student talents, alumni, and external collaborators like Mindef’s Music and Drama Company throughout the open house.

What’s New:

Designing Your Life Framework

RP has launched the framework for the 2025/26 academic year to give its students more academic flexibility and autonomy. As part of the framework, all RP schools will offer new broad-based diploma options that allow students to specialise in a major, while still being able to take modules from adjacent fields.

The framework will last for five years and will support graduates for two years post-graduation, offering guidance in career planning, relationship management and life skills development​​.

19 new minors

Some 19 new minor programmes are being launched by RP for the new academic year, of which 14 of these programmes are broad-based minor programmes that are open to most or all RP students who are not studying a related course. Five other minors are discipline-based, and are only offered to students studying specific courses.
