SINGAPORE - Devotees eager to participate in the Thaipusam 2025 festival can make their bookings online from 9am on Dec 27 through the official festival website.

The festival, which will be observed on Feb 11, 2025, is a significant event for Tamil Hindus all around the world. In Singapore, it features a large-scale procession from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple to Sri Thendayuthapani Temple.

During Thaipusam, devotees fulfil vows made to the Hindu deity Murugan, often by carrying paal kudam (milk pot offerings) or kavadis – decorated wood and metal arches.

18,000 devotees took part in Thaipusam 2024,

including 274 kavadi bearers and 12,800 paal kudam bearers who marked the rite in a display of faith and devotion.

The Thaipusam 2025 procession will commence the night before, at 11.30pm on Feb 10, from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Serangoon Road, the Hindu Endowments Board (HEB) said in a statement on Dec 21.

All devotees are required to complete their journey and reach the Sri Thendayuthapani Temple in Tank Road by 11pm on Thaipusam Day.

For those who wish to carry kavadis, a special briefing will take place on Jan 4 at 10am, at the PGP Hall Auditorium of Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple.

Online registration for kavadi-bearers opens on Jan 5, at 9am.

In addition, musicians and music groups who wish to perform along the procession route for kavadis are to register online at the Thaipusam website, HEB added.

Small amplification devices will be permitted for religious hymn singers along the route, which will feature live music points in Hastings Road, Selegie Road, Short Street and Cathay Green.

Kavadi-bearers can separately engage musicians playing Indian instruments to accompany them en route.

HEB added that alcohol consumption and smoking are prohibited at both temples and along the procession route.
