SINGAPORE - Singapore condemns

the

Dec 20

deadly attack at a Christmas market

in the German city of Magdeburg that killed five people and injured more than 200.

In a statement on Dec 22, a spokesman for Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said there can be no justification for such “horrific” attacks on innocent people.

A nine-year-old girl is among the dead and 41 people are in critical condition after a BMW sport utility vehicle was driven into the festive market, ploughing 400m through the crowd in an attack that lasted about three minutes.

MFA said: “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we wish the injured a quick recovery.

“We express our solidarity with the people of Germany during this period of grief and pain.”

The Singapore Embassy in Berlin has also reached out to eRegistered Singaporeans in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt and is in close contact with the local authorities to ascertain whether any Singaporeans were affected, the ministry added.

So far, there have been no reports of any Singaporeans “directly affected” or injured, it said.
