SINGAPORE – Local charity Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation (RLAF), in conjunction with the Singapore Red Cross (SRC), is calling on the public to help raise funds for affected communities in quake-stricken Myanmar and Thailand.

The organisations are working together in the fund-raising appeal, which will provide urgent humanitarian assistance to those most impacted by the 7.7-magnitude quake on March 28.

Myanmar’s death toll from the quake

crossed 3,000 on April 2

, with thousands injured and hundreds more missing.

The situation has been compounded by heavy rain, which has hindered rescue operations.

Thailand’s toll stands at 22, with more than 70 believed to be still trapped under the rubble.

RLAF’s fund-raising appeal runs from April 2 to 30. The money will be used to buy and distribute vital supplies such as food, water, blankets, tarpaulins and hygiene kits.

Those who wish to donate via PayNow can key in RLAF’s UEN 200910530ZRLA and indicate “AidforMyanmarThai” in the remarks.

There is also a campaign on charity platform GivePlease at

https://donate.rlafoundation.org.sg/campaign/178

.

A bank transfer can be made to RLAF at OCBC current account number 60131331500 or donors can issue a cheque payable to RLAF and state on its back their name and contact number, and indicate “AidforMyanmarThai”.

The cheque should be posted to RLAF (Yusof Ishak Mosque, 10 Woodlands Drive 17, Level 4, Singapore 737740).

Those who prefer to contribute in person can do so from April 4 to 10 at mosques that have the relevant donation boxes. The exceptions are Masjid Ahmad, Masjid Hussain Sulaiman, Masjid Khadijah, Masjid Omar Salmah and Masjid Tasek Utara. All collections will be channelled through the SRC, whose

own appeal runs from March 30 to May 31.

Another humanitarian organisation, Mercy Relief, in a statement on April 3, said it has deployed an emergency response team to Yangon to provide relief aid, including emergency shelter, food and water to victims.

Its convoy will travel to affected regions to deliver urgent aid to an estimated 10,000 people.

Mercy Relief’s mission is the first to include a medical team from Singapore into areas of Myanmar hit hard by the disaster, like Sagaing, the organisation said.
