Some enthusiasts here fired up over illegal replica guns, despite the risks


Twenty sets of airsoft guns and parts were seized by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority on July 24, 2018. Airsoft guns are controlled items under the Arms and Explosives Act.

SINGAPORE - Like many boys his age, Timothy (not his real name), 15, loves to assemble things to play with - except that he put together an airsoft gun, which is a prohibited item in Singapore and can cause serious injury when fired.

The student got interested after watching YouTube videos about such guns earlier this year. He tried to purchase an airsoft gun from a local seller on Instagram but failed to do so.
