SINGAPORE – Train operator SMRT has filed a police report after footage that appears to have been taken from an MRT track made the rounds on social media from June 10.

The video, which was shared on the Complaint Singapore Facebook page, was taken in dimly lit conditions and shows a train passing by on a nearby track.

The person taking the video later moves closer to the train before crossing the tracks. It is not clear when the video was taken.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, SMRT said on June 11 that it is aware of the video.

“The video footage was captured between Simei and Tanah Merah stations where nearby construction works are ongoing for new viaducts connecting to the future East Coast Integrated Depot,” SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai said in a statement.

“We take a serious view of this incident as track trespassing poses severe safety risks,” he said.

“Such reckless actions not only endanger the individual but can also cause service disruptions, affecting many commuters. When emergency brakes are applied, there is also a risk of causing injury to commuters on board the train.”

Mr Lam added that SMRT has reported the incident to the police and is cooperating with investigations.

The police on June 11 confirmed that a report was made and investigations are ongoing.
