SINGAPORE - Local telco Singtel has partnered with video-streaming service Netflix in a bid to expand their offerings.

Customers can get up to nine months of a complimentary Netflix subscription when they recontract or sign up with the telco's mobile or Internet and television bundle services.

In April, they will also be able to access Netflix directly through their set-top box through a quick access button or via channel 404.

Netflix, which streams movies and TV shows online for a monthly fee, arrived in Singapore on Jan 7.

Those who sign up or recontract only for a mobile subscription will receive three months' free subscription, while subscribers to Singtel's Internet and television bundle get six months. Customers who sign up for both will get nine months' complimentary Netflix subscriptions.

Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, chief executive of Singtel's Singapore consumer business, said entertainment consumption habits were changing and the tie-up offers customers greater freedom and flexibility.

Mr Bill Holmes, Netflix's global head of business development, said: "As a Netflix Open Connect partner and the exclusive promotional launch partner, Netflix and Singtel are working together to deliver our diverse library of TV shows and movies and an unparalleled streaming experience through Singtel products."
