SINGAPORE - Singapore travellers are prone to taking items from hotel rooms, according to a survey by travel search website Hotels.com.

In a worldwide poll of almost 5,000 travellers, 71 per cent of Singaporeans said that they have taken items - not including toiletries - from hotel rooms.

Singapore was placed second in a list of 28 countries most likely to indulge in hotel misappropriation.

Argentina topped the poll, with 73 per cent of respondents confessing to bagging items from hotels. Spain, Germany and Ireland rounded up the top five.

The most "honest" country was Colombia, with only 31 per cent of respondents admitting to taking items from their rooms.

The survey asked respondents if they had ever stolen items from hotel rooms, with the exclusion of toiletries as these are taken by everyone, said Hotels.com.

Common items taken by travellers included stationery and slippers.
