SINGAPORE - Ambassador-at-Large Tommy Koh was given Indonesia’s Adinata Award on Aug 17, for his work to promote bilateral understanding and good relations.

The annual award, conferred to individuals or institutions in Singapore, was given to Professor Koh at the Indonesian Embassy by the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, Mr Suryo Pratomo.

on Aug 17.

The award is “a form of appreciation and recognition for his track record as a diplomat, academic, and prominent figure who inspires everyone,” the embassy said on its Facebook page.

The ambassador said on the embassy’s Facebook page that the award was given to Prof Koh “for his contribution in the formation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea which had a major impact on Indonesia as an archipelagic country. Professor Tommy Koh is considered active in writing and speaking at various forums regarding Asean and is also active in improving bilateral relations and cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore”.

Prof Koh said on Facebook that he is the fourth recipient of the award. The first three were executive director and CEO of Temasek Holdings, Mr Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara; Singapore International Foundation chairman Mr Ong Keng Yong; and non-resident Ambassador to Kuwait, Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed.

Prof Koh said he is “convinced that I was born under a lucky star.”
