SINGAPORE – Singapore Pools generated $12.7 billion in turnover in the financial year 2024/2025, an increase from $12.2 billion in the previous financial year, it announced on Oct 8.
About 97 per cent – or $12.3 billion – of this amount was returned to Singaporeans in the form of prize payouts ($9.45 billion), betting duties and taxes ($2.28 billion), and contributions to the Tote Board ($575 million).
The remaining $353 million – or 3 per cent – was used to cover operating expenses.
Singapore Pools is the sole legal operator for lottery, sports betting and horse wagering in Singapore. Turnover is generated from Toto, the Singapore Sweep, 4D, sports betting and horse racing.
The operator is a subsidiary of the Tote Board, a statutory board of the Finance Ministry. The Tote Board channels operating surplus from gambling revenue to support initiatives in the community.
The Tote Board Group, which comprises the Tote Board, Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club, recorded $3.705 billion in income for the 2024/2025 financial year, a 4 per cent increase from $3.66 billion the previous year.
Most of this income – $3.285 billion – came from betting and gaming activities.
Another $139 million came from casino entry levies. The daily casino entry levy for Singaporeans and permanent residents is $150 a person.
The group’s income growth from the previous year is primarily attributed to higher sports betting turnover from more sporting events being offered, supported by stable lottery margins, the Tote Board said in its annual report on Oct 8.
Out of the $3.705 billion income, $2.344 billion was returned to Singapore and Singaporeans in the form of gambling duties and corporate tax, an increase of 2 per cent from the $2.293 billion in the 2023/2024 financial year.
The board disbursed $568 million in grants for the 2024/2025 financial year, a 9 per cent increase from the $522 million of the previous financial year.
These grants support initiatives across areas like healthy living, community care, social initiatives, sports and the arts.
The board said in its report that it approved $308 million in grants, up from $183.2 million the previous year.
Singapore Pools has contributed more than $2.4 million in support to the community, benefiting 230 charities and community initiatives during this period.
Another $1.75 million, raised together with partners, was given to charities.
The group organised 163 volunteering activities in the financial year, and supported 230 charities and social service agencies.
More than 7,589 volunteering hours have been completed, with a 53.7 per cent staff volunteering rate.
Their initiatives benefited groups and organisations such as Community Chest, the Children’s Cancer Foundation, para-athletes and local football groups.
