SINGAPORE - A contingent of troops from across the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) recently concluded a multilateral exercise in Indonesia.
The troops, comprising 46 personnel from the Singapore Army, Republic of Singapore Navy and Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS), took part in Exercise Super Garuda Shield from Aug 25 to Sept 4.
Co-hosted by the Indonesian National Defence Forces and United States Indo-Pacific Command, this year’s iteration of the exercise saw 13 countries take part, said Singapore’s Ministry of Defence in a statement on Sept 4.
More than 6,000 soldiers in total were involved, said the US Embassy in Jakarta on Aug 26.
The SAF has been participating in the exercise since its inception in 2022, with the latest one taking place across different parts of Indonesia.
Soldiers from the Singapore Army took part in a field training exercise and a combined arms live-firing alongside troops from other countries in Batu Raja, in Sumatra.
Meanwhile, a planning exercise was carried out in Jakarta, which was also where personnel from DIS took part in a cyber-defence exercise with their international counterparts.
Chief Guards Officer Wong Pui Chuan said the exercise was an important platform for the SAF to strengthen its professional ties and enhance interoperability with other participating armed forces.
“As a large-scale, multilateral joint exercise, it sharpens our operational capabilities, while fostering stronger collaboration and mutual understanding among partners,” Brigadier-General Wong added.
