SINGAPORE – The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has ordered the recall of an imported French cheese, Vieux Porche Buchette (200g), due to possible listeria contamination.
It said in a statement on Aug 13 that the French authorities had ordered the recall of the soft cheese in France as it may contain the food-borne bacteria, listeria.
“As the affected product was imported into Singapore, SFA has directed the importers, Classic Fine Foods Pte Ltd and Indoguna (Singapore) Pte Ltd, to recall the implicated products,” said SFA, adding that the recall was ongoing.
The affected batches have a best-before date leading up to and including Aug 20, 2025.
Consuming the listeria bacterium can cause food poisoning. Signs of infection may include fever, muscle ache, nausea and diarrhoea.
SFA said listeria can be fatal to pregnant women, infants and the immunocompromised.
Food that are at higher risk of being contaminated with listeria include unpasteurised or raw dairy products, soft cheese including those ripened by mould, refrigerated meat spread, smoked fish and ready-to-eat deli meats and sausages.
Consumers who bought the Vieux Porche Buchette product should not eat it, and those who have eaten it and are concerned about their health should seek medical advice, SFA said.
