SINGAPORE – Commuters using Dhoby Ghaut MRT station on Aug 6 should factor in additional travelling time due to an emergency preparedness exercise there on that day.
From 10am to 4pm, commuters may be asked to go through metal detectors and have their belongings scanned by X-ray machines under Exercise Station Guard, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a Facebook post on July 29.
The authority has advised commuters to avoid carrying bulky items on that day as this may prolong the screening.
It added that such exercises happen regularly so that people remain vigilant and ready for any emergencies at Singapore’s transport nodes.
The exercises also help commuters familiarise themselves with what to do in such situations.
Dhoby Ghaut station is the first triple-line interchange in Singapore’s public train network, linking the North-South, North East and Circle lines.
It is also linked to Plaza Singapura shopping mall.
Exercise Station Guard is part of the national SGSecure movement to build resilience in the community against security threats, particularly from terror attacks. It has been conducted regularly since 2018, with checks done previously at Bugis, Ang Mo Kio, Newton, Holland Village, Hougang, Jurong East and HarbourFront MRT stations.
