One woman was approached by a salesman from an electricity retailer, who took her NRIC and did the paperwork to switch her account over from supplier SP Group without her consent.

Another found herself locked into a 36-month contract after handing her NRIC to a sales agent to check if she was eligible for a 30 per cent discount on her electricity bill.
