Q: Are these lines straight?
A: Yes, they are. The lines appear to be curved because of the placement of the smaller black and white squares within the larger ones.
Created by Japanese visual-illusion expert Akiyoshi Kitaoka, the smaller black and white squares create perceived tilts that make our brain see the lines as wavy.
