SINGAPORE - A scammer purportedly set up a fake Instagram page posing as local actor Li Nanxing and tried to swindle $1,800 out of a fan.

Li, 53, shared the account on Facebook on Thursday (May 24) with a series of screenshots from a conversation he had with one of his followers, who warned him about it.

Li's manager told Shin Min Daily News in a report on Saturday that the scammer had tried to borrow $1,800 from a fan.

"Luckily the female fan was alert and felt that it was suspicious for Li Nanxing to be borrowing money from her," she said. "She asked the person: 'If you are Li Nanxing, take a video for me.' This scared the person off."

The purported scammer's Instagram page is @lnxglobal_personal, while Li's official Instagram page is @lnxglobal_official.

The fake page is still active as of Saturday and has 65 followers and four posts, while Li has more than 20,000 followers on his real account.

His other two official pages are his Weibo page and Facebook page.

Li owns talent management agency LNX Global, which manages actress Constance Song.

He was also the face of a 2016 crime prevention campaign, telling TV viewers: "Don't panic, don't believe, don't give."
