SINGAPORE – A 24-year-old male Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) serviceman was taken to hospital after an accident involving an SAF vehicle and a van on June 10.

The police said they were alerted to the accident, which took place at about 7am in Upper Changi Road East towards New Upper Changi Road.

A video of the accident’s aftermath on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page showed the stationary SAF vehicle – a five-tonner – positioned perpendicular in the middle lane of the road, just before the stop line at a traffic light.

An ambulance can also be seen.

In a statement issued on June 10, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said that SAF was aware of the accident and assisting with investigations.

The ministry did not say if the driver, who was hurt, was a full-time national serviceman or a regular.

He was conscious when he was taken to Changi General Hospital and was discharged after receiving outpatient treatment, said Mindef and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
