Mr Caesar Lye lived a frugal life and preferred his wife's simple homecooked dishes over fine dining. The former auditor also hardly went on vacation, unlike many of his friends.

Despite the simple lifestyle, his wife Carol sometimes worried that they would not have enough to live on.
