Raising the roof

The arching, pillar-free roof of the new Nanyang Technological University sports hall is made possible by the use of glued laminated timber for its seven structural beams. Much lighter than steel, this eco-friendly material known as ‘glulam’ allows the 72m beams to stay aloft without additional support.
