Putting an end to Ubin's prickly problem

To address residents' complaints about visitors taking away durians from the island, a durian festival will be held and the fruit harvested by NParks will be shared freely with visitors and residents alike

It has been a thorny issue for years.

Whenever durians ripen twice a year on the island of Pulau Ubin, clashes would occur between its residents and visitors who go over to stake their claim on the king of fruits.
