SINGAPORE – Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s first Cabinet after the

2025 General Election

will be sworn in at the Istana on the evening of May 23.

Both PM Wong and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam have been slated to speak, similar to past swearing-in ceremonies.

Most Cabinet ministers, senior ministers of state and ministers of state will be sworn in on May 23, which is when all appointments will take effect.

The senior parliamentary secretaries will be sworn in at a later date, including Dr Syed Harun Alhabsyi, who will start in his role on Oct 1, 2025. Mr Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, who will also be sworn in later, will take on his minister of state role on Feb 1, 2026.

He formed a

core team of four other senior leaders

– three new coordinating ministers and Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong – and kept experienced hands at the helm of economic and external-facing ministries.

He also brought in a record number of

nine new political office-holders

, of whom seven were newly elected at the recent polls.
