SINGAPORE - The police are looking into a matter involving a group of individuals who turned up at the Istana to deliver two letters seeking clemency for four inmates on death row.
The incident took place on Sept 13 at around 4.10pm, and the group left after delivering the letters, the police said on Sept 23 in response to The Straits Times’ queries.
On Sept 13, a group named Student Actions for Transformative Justice had posted on Instagram about delivering the letters, which were addressed to the President and Prime Minister.
The four inmates – Jumaat Mohamed Sayed, Lingkesvaran Rajendaren, Datchinamurthy Kataiah and Saminathan Selvaraju – were sentenced to death between 2015 and 2018 over drug trafficking offences.
Their appeals against conviction and sentence were dismissed between 2016 and 2020.
