KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met the leaders of Qatar and Bahrain on the sidelines of meetings that Asean leaders had with the Gulf Cooperation Council and China on May 27.
The meetings took place a day after Asean leaders gathered for the 46th Asean Summit in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur.
In a post on X, PM Wong said he had a good meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Singapore and Qatar share strong and longstanding ties, he said, adding that he looked forward to working closely with the Emir to deepen multifaceted cooperation as they navigate an increasingly complex and challenging global landscape together.
He also met the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. PM Wong noted that Singapore and Bahrain are small island states of about the same land size and share a similar outlook of always trying to find relevance and add value to the world.
He said there is much to gain from the mutual sharing of experiences and best practices, and that he looked forward to enhancing their partnership.
