SINGAPORE - Leaders of Asean countries Cambodia and Thailand rang Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on May 7 to congratulate him on the outcome of Singapore’s general election – the first with PM Wong at the helm.
The PAP led by PM Wong, who is also the Finance Minister, won 65.57 per cent of the vote on May 3
In their conversation, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and PM Wong “highlighted the enduring friendship” between the two countries that marked 60 years of diplomatic relations in 2025, said Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on May 7.
They also look forward to advancing bilateral cooperation at their next meeting.
PM Wong and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra reaffirmed the longstanding and multi-faceted ties between Singapore and Thailand in their call, the MFA added.
Mr Wong invited Ms Paetongtarn to visit Singapore later in 2025, as both countries commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations, to continue discussions on deepening bilateral cooperation.
Leaders around the world, from the US and Europe to Japan, Taiwan and New Zealand, have extended their congratulations to PM Wong since May 4. Closer to home, the prime ministers of Australia, Bhutan, Indonesia and Malaysia have also been in touch.
