SINGAPORE - Dr Adrian Ang, a director at facility and environmental management company Chye Thiam Maintenance, has been appointed vice-chairman of the governing People’s Action Party’s Bedok Reservoir-Punggol branch.
Mr Victor Lye, who chairs the branch and has been contesting Aljunied GRC since 2015, mentioned this in a Facebook post on Jan 24.
The Bedok Reservoir-Punggol division is in Aljunied GRC, which is held by the Workers’ Party (WP).
Mr Lye and Dr Ang gave out oranges and goodies on Jan 24 to staff at PCF Sparkletots pre-schools in the division for the upcoming Chinese New Year.
The Straits Times has asked Dr Ang, 41, for comment on his new appointment.
Based on his Facebook posts, Dr Ang has been meeting Bedok Reservoir-Punggol residents in “regular coffee-shop sessions”.
Earlier in January, Dr Ang also attended the Bursary and Edusave awards ceremony in the area, and took seniors from Thye Hua Kwan Nursing Home on an outing to the Jewel Changi Airport retail complex.
“We remain committed to staying grounded, listening to the needs of our residents, and offering support wherever we can,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Jan 23.
The father of two boys and two girls welcomed his fifth child, a boy, in January.
Dr Ang was formerly a lecturer and section head at Temasek Polytechnic.
He was previously seen on the ground with Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC MPs during a market visit and, more recently, at home visits alongside Mr Lye in Aljunied GRC.
News of his appointment as vice-chairman of the branch comes days after the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee was formed
The PAP also announced on Jan 23 that Mrs Bernadette Giam, 38, will now chair its Sengkang East branch.
The food and beverage entrepreneur replaced Mr Marcus Loh, who had been the branch’s chairman since Nov 1, 2023.
In August 2024, the ruling party appointed two new branch chairmen in Aljunied GRC, which has been held by the WP since 2011.
Trade unionist Jagathishwaran Rajo replaced bank executive Chua Eng Leong as branch chairman of the Eunos ward. Mr Kenny Sim, chief executive of IT reseller and distributor Serial Achieva, took over the Paya Lebar division from lawyer Alex Yeo.
