SINGAPORE - The creation of Tampines Changkat SMC means Tampines will comprise a five-member group representation constituency and a single seat, and with the addition of one member, the PAP team can better serve Tampines residents, said Social and Family Development Minister Masagos Zulkifli.
That member will also address the specific concerns of Tampines Changkat residents, he added.
On March 11, the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC) issued a report
Parts of Aljunied GRC – held by the Workers’ Party – will be hived off and taken into Tampines GRC.
The single-seat Tampines Changkat will be carved out and take in a polling district from East Coast GRC.
In a March 13 Facebook post, Mr Masagos said: “We remain committed to enhancing the liveability of Tampines, delivering on our five-year masterplan
He added that Tampines Changkat continues to be part of this plan, and welcomed residents from a raft of housing estates to join the launch of the Tampines SG60 Care Vouchers at Our Tampines Hub on March 15.
At the event, Tampines families with blue Chas cards will receive $60 in Shopee vouchers that they can use to buy daily essentials, among other things.
Tampines GRC MP Desmond Choo, who now oversees the Tampines Changkat area, said in a Facebook post on March 12 that the release of the EBRC report marks a significant milestone for Tampines Changkat.
He said while boundaries may shift, his team’s commitment to residents remains the same.
He said: “For many years, the PAP Tampines Changkat team has walked alongside residents – listening, understanding and working together to build a stronger, more inclusive community.
“Regardless of the boundary changes, we are and will be focused on serving Changkat residents as we have over the last many years.”
Mr Choo added that Meet-the-People Sessions will continue for now.
He said: “Tampines Changkat remains an integral part of the Tampines family, and residents will continue to benefit from ongoing upgrading and development plans across Tampines.
“We stay committed to building a community you are proud to call home.”
