SINGAPORE - The police are investigating a case of shop theft in Punggol Plaza's FairPrice store that occurred on Wednesday night (July 4).

The police said they were alerted to the incident at 10.04pm on Wednesday.

A spokesman for FairPrice told The Straits Times (ST) that the incident happened at about 9.45pm.

A dashcam video, taken from a car driving into the Punggol Plaza driveway and uploaded to Facebook group SG Road Vigilante on Wednesday evening, was shared more than 400 times.

In the video, two people in motorcycle helmets are seen dashing out of the mall, into a driveway that faces Punggol Field.

The first person is in a white T-shirt and dark-coloured shorts, while the second is wearing a dark-coloured top and light-coloured trousers. Both are carrying bags.

FairPrice said it has in place various security measures including closed-circuit TV cameras to deter and detect shoplifting.

A check by ST with five other shopping malls showed that helmets are generally allowed to be carried inside shopping malls, but they advised against wearing it on the premises, saying that security may intervene in such cases.

The case is under police investigation.
