PM Wong sends condolences to Philippine quake victims, says Singapore ready to help

SINGAPORE – Prime Minister Lawrence Wong sent his condolences to Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr following an earthquake that struck northern Cebu
In a letter dated Oct 2, PM Wong said he was “deeply saddened to learn about the loss of lives and the widespread damage” caused by the earthquake.
On behalf of the Singapore Government, PM Wong extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and shared his sincere wishes for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.
“Our thoughts are with the Philippines and its people during this difficult time,” he said.
He added that Singapore, as a fellow Asean member state and close friend of the Philippines, “stands ready” to provide assistance for ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
“Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can contribute,” he said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement on Oct 2 that it is closely monitoring the situation in the Philippines, and has reached out to e-registered Singaporeans in the affected area to offer consular assistance.
“In view of possible aftershocks, Singaporeans in the affected area are advised to remain vigilant, take all necessary precautions for their personal safety, and heed the instructions of the local authorities,” said MFA.
It added that there are currently no reports of Singaporeans injured as a result of the earthquake.
MFA advised Singaporeans who are in or travelling to the Philippines to e-register with the ministry at and to purchase comprehensive travel insurance. Singaporeans in the Philippines who need consular assistance can contact the Singapore Embassy in Manila, or the 24-hour MFA duty office on +65-6379-8800/8855 (24-hour hotline).
