SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is confident that cooperation between Thailand and Singapore will continue to grow in breadth and depth under the leadership of new Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

In a letter congratulating

the incoming Thai leader

on becoming prime minister, PM Wong also said there are rich opportunities for both nations to collaborate in the areas of digital economy and innovation, connectivity, and food security.

He said: “I am confident that our sustained efforts will bring lasting benefits to our peoples and contribute to Asean’s collective resilience.”

PM Wong also extended an invitation to Mr Anutin to visit Singapore at the earliest opportunity, and said he was looking forward to meeting him soon.

Mr Anutin

was elected prime minister on Sept 5

, after a Thai court permanently disqualified his predecessor Paetongtarn Shinawatra, whose political fortunes dipped after she was suspended for ethical misconduct in handling a border clash with Cambodia.

In his letter, PM Wong said this year is significant because it marks the 60th year of establishing diplomatic ties between both nations.

“Singapore and Thailand share a longstanding friendship and robust partnership that has flourished across many domains,” he added.

A recent milestone, PM Wong said, was the signing of the

Implementation Agreement on Carbon Credits Collaboration

– Singapore’s first such pact with an Asean member state.

PM Wong said: “This reflects our joint commitment to sustainable development and advancing the green transition. More importantly, it demonstrates how our countries can work together to pioneer regional leadership in climate action.”

On behalf of the Government, he extended his congratulations to Mr Anutin on his election as Thailand’s 32nd prime minister, and wished him success in his new role.
