SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Nov 21 congratulated Mauritian leader Navinchandra Ramgoolam on his recent general election victory and appointment as prime minister.
In a letter to Dr Ramgoolam, PM Wong said Singapore and Mauritius enjoy a longstanding and warm relationship.
He said: “Our countries cooperate in many areas, including in water management, education and digitalisation. We share a commitment to multilateralism, international law and a rules-based international order.”
Like Singapore, Mauritius is a member of groupings such as the Forum of Small States, the Small Island Developing States, the Alliance of Small Island States and the Commonwealth, he added.
PM Wong, who is also Finance Minister, said: “I look forward to working with you to further strengthen the partnership between Singapore and Mauritius.”
Dr Ramgoolam, 77, and his opposition coalition Alliance du Changement swept 60 of the 62 national assembly seats in a landslide victory at the polls on Nov 10.
He was sworn in on Nov 13, becoming prime minister of the Indian Ocean island nation for the third time, a decade after he last held the post.
