SINGAPORE - Pioneers have saved more than $4.4 million at NTUC outlets between last October and this June, NTUC Social Enterprises announced on Thursday (Aug 20).
NTUC's Pioneers OK! package, launched last October, offers seniors special Monday discounts of between 3 per cent at NTUC FairPrice and 12 per cent at NTUC Foodfare.
It also involves setting up Pioneers Priority queues and seating in stores and food courts, as well as creating specially designed training workshops and insurance plans for elderly beneficiaries.
NTUC secretary-general Chan Chun Sing said: "I am happy that Pioneers are benefiting from the special discounts to help them better manage the cost of living. But more importantly, they are also benefiting from a less tangible Pioneers Priority programme designed to make their lives easier."
He added that the pioneer priority programmes were catching on in other establishments, as he observed more places in Singapore having priority queues for seniors.
