The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Johor-Singapore Special  Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) was signed on 11 January 2024 by Minister for  Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong and Malaysia’s Minister of Economy  Mohd Rafizi Ramli, and witnessed by Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien  Loong and Malaysia Prime Minister YAB Dato Seri’ Anwar Ibrahim.

Singapore and Malaysia view the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone as a win-win initiative.

SINGAPORE – Officials from Singapore and Malaysia met in Johor for talks on issues such as improving cross-border flows of goods and people between Singapore and Johor, and the ease of doing business between the two countries.

The talks, held over three days from Aug 28 to Aug 30, were part of advance discussions on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), the Ministry of Trade and Industry said in a statement on Aug 30.

Other issues raised during the meeting involved economic sectors and

talent development

, with the aim of strengthening the business ecosystem within the region.

“Both Singapore and Malaysia view the JS-SEZ as a win-win initiative that benefits businesses and communities from both countries,” the statement said.

It added that Singapore will continue to work closely with Malaysia to bring about mutual benefits to both countries and peoples through a full-fledged agreement on the JS-SEZ.

Both sides will also work towards the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, to be held later in 2024.
