SINGAPORE - Singapore travellers looking to travel to and from Wenzhou, in China’s eastern Zhejiang province, will be able to fly non-stop to the city from Dec 24.

Shanghai Xihao Aviation Service, which operates air charters, will run the thrice-weekly route on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on Zhejiang-based Loong Air’s Airbus A320.

Both companies announced the new service on Nov 20 at an event held at Singapore’s Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel.

The flight from Wenzhou will depart at 10.40am and arrive in Singapore at 3.55pm, while the return service will leave Singapore at 5pm and reach Wenzhou at 10pm.

Bookings can be done via online platforms such as Ctrip, or through Loong Air’s booking service on its website.

Home to the Yandang Mountains, various natural sites and a scenic coastline, Wenzhou is known as the birthplace of China’s private sector.

Ms Linda Hou, chief representative of the Zhejiang Commercial Representative Office for South-east Asia in Singapore, hopes that the new route will promote in-depth exchanges between Singapore and Wenzhou in the areas of tourism, business and culture.

Mr Pan Huan Ying, board chairman and director of Shanghai Xihao Aviation Service, said the new route will provide the “convenience of business, study, tourism, as well as for locals to visit relatives in either location”.

By December, Loong Air will fly to 15 international destinations, including Almaty in Kazakhstan and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

A spokesperson for Changi Airport Group (CAG) said this is the first time that the airport will be linked to Wenzhou via scheduled flights.

China is Changi Airport’s largest market, with more than 5.7 million passengers flying between Singapore and China from January to September. This is 120 per cent more than the 2.6 million passenger movements recorded during the same period in 2023, said CAG’s spokesperson.

Independent aviation analyst Brendan Sobie of Sobie Aviation said Changi Airport will have 30 non-stop destinations in China in January 2025.

This is on a par with the number from January 2020, although they are not the same 30 destinations, he wrote on professional network LinkedIn on Nov 18.
