SINGAPORE - The Police Coast Guard (PCG) will soon see a change in command, with Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Ang Eng Seng set to take the helm on April 9.
SAC Ang, 45, will take over from SAC Cheang Keng Keong, 57, who will be retiring from the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the police said on April 4, after the change of command ceremony.
SAC Ang joined SPF in 2005 and has held key appointments such as head of operations and security at PCG and most recently, commander of the Woodlands Police Division.
Outgoing SAC Cheang, 57, has served as commander of PCG since Aug 13, 2018.
He joined SPF in 1990 and served in roles such as deputy director of technology in the Ministry of Home Affairs Headquarters, commander of the Jurong Police Division and commander of Traffic Police.
As commander of PCG, SAC Cheang significantly enhanced the unit’s capabilities, said the police.
He commissioned new vessels
He also strengthened maritime cooperation on the regional front by establishing memoranda of understanding with the Indonesia Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Indonesian Coast Guard and Australian Border Force.
SAC Cheang also fostered strong bilateral relations with coast guards and maritime enforcement agencies from other countries like Malaysia, Japan and India.
In a statement, SAC Cheang said: “I am heartened by the steadfast commitment and high adaptability of PCG officers.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to my officers, stakeholders and strategic partners whose support has been key and instrumental in safeguarding Singapore waters.
“My command stint in PCG has been deeply fulfilling, and I am confident that SAC Ang will lead PCG to even greater achievements.”
