SINGAPORE - Members of the public will soon be able to enjoy facilities such as a multi-purpose hall, sound proof rooms for recording and jamming music, and a mini butterfly garden at the Red Shield Industries Family Hub, which will open this Saturday.
It is the latest initiative by Red Shield Industries, the social enterprise arm of The Salvation Army.
Located at Tanglin Road, the Family Hub aims to bring families in the community together. Visitors can shop at the thrift store and marketplace or use the sports facilities including a fitness corner and futsal court.
All facilities will be available for public booking through the Family Hub at rates similar to that of community centres.
Residents of the area who are looking for a job will also be able to apply for openings at the new centre. General Manager of Red Shield Industries, Mr Tian Toh Kian, said it was looking to "create gainful employment for people in the area".
More than 100 people will be employed through the hub's programme with its partners. One such example is a programme with the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), which provides 20 clients with the opportunity to work at the thrift store. This will increase their confidence and facilitate reintegration into the workforce, said Red Shield.
The official opening of the Family Hub will be held on May 30 with Speaker of Parliament, Ms Halimah Yacob attending as the guest of honour.
