SINGAPORE - The allegations made by a netizen against a police officer, who was said to have turned a woman away when she wanted to report a molestation case, are unfounded and false, the police said.
In a statement on Facebook on Tuesday (Jan 30), the police noted that the netizen, who goes by the name Kuroe Kun, had posted online that her female friend was allegedly molested on Jan 25.
The claims in the post were made against Singaporean YouTuber and actor Eden Ang, who refuted the allegations of sexual harassment on Sunday. He added in a Facebook post that he has since filed a police report. The police confirmed to The Straits Times on Tuesday that Mr Ang had lodged a report.
In Kuroe's post, which has since been removed, it was also alleged that the investigation officer from the Clementi Police Division had made insensitive remarks to her friend and even turned her away.
"These are serious allegations against the investigation officer, and we have looked into it. We wish to clarify that the allegations are unfounded and false," the police said, adding that the officer "carried out his duty professionally".
The police clarified that instead of being turned away, the female friend had informed the officer of her own accord that she needed time to consider before lodging a police report.
However, the woman was not forthcoming in her accounts to the police, and has yet to make a report, despite continual efforts to reach out to her, the statement added.
The police said that they take a very serious view of all complaints or allegations made against police officers.
"Such complaints will be thoroughly investigated and if substantiated, the police will not hesitate to take action against any errant officer," the statement said.
However, if the allegations are found to be false and made maliciously, the police will take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
ST understands that no further action is being taken against Kuroe for now.
The police reminded the public to post information online responsibly and warned against speculating or spreading unsubstantiated information.
