Muis debunks Subway halal hoax

SINGAPORE- The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) has debunked a rumour that fast food chain Subway will be halal-certified for the National Day weekend.

Addressing a photo of a tweet that had contained a fake announcement about the chain becoming halal, Muis wrote on its Facebook on Thursday: "A screenshot informing members of the public that Subway is halal for this weekend is inaccurate.Kindly note that we have yet to receive any halal applications from Subway."

Muis also asked for netizens to look out for a blue tick next to the Twitter username to ensure that tweets are from a verified account. The photo that has been circulating shows a tweet without the tick.

The official @halalSG Twitter account handles queries on halal food certification.
