SINGAPORE – Train passengers on the North-South Line (NSL) faced delays of about an hour in their journeys during the morning peak period on July 8 due to a track fault affecting a five-station stretch.
Operator SMRT said on Facebook at 10.21am that the track fault happened at about 8.45am near the NSL Orchard station, towards the city. It added that its employees were on-site to investigate the fault.
Passengers were told, via announcements in trains and stations, to factor an extra 15 minutes into their journeys from Toa Payoh to Somerset stations, towards the Marina South Pier, SMRT said.
“We seek commuters’ understanding and apologise for the longer travelling time to your journey,” it added.
The operator said earlier, at 9.57am, that train services in the affected stretch had resumed.
Several Facebook users complained on SMRT’s post about the delay, with some pointing out that its first post on Facebook about the track fault was at 9.44am – about an hour after the track fault started.
Facebook user Lim ChoonHeng said: “Boarded at Bishan about 8.45am to go to City Hall. Train stopped about 10 minutes per stop. Had to alight at Orchard to detour via TEL (Thomson-East Coast Line) and EWL (East-West Line). Arrived at City Hall at 10am sharp.
“If this announcement was made much earlier, I would have detoured early. The fault already started much earlier, before 9am.”
