SINGAPORE- An Adidas advertisement that features an image of a pointed middle finger caught Tampines GRC MP Baey Yam Keng's attention, and not in a good way.
Mr Baey saw the advertisement when he was jogging past the Kallang Wave Mall on Tuesday. It says: "There will be haters".
"I understand what the poster is trying to express, with its symbols of negativity, including an image of a thumbs down gesture. But the middle finger motif's location right below the word 'haters', its size and thick lines make it more prominent than the other images," he told evening daily Lianhe Wanbao.
He posted a photo of it on his Facebook and Instagram accounts on Wednesday with the caption: "Saw this billboard ad fronting a shop in Kallang Wave. There is quite a prominent motif of a hand gesture showing the middle finger. Do you find it acceptable in the name of creativity? Or do you think it is inappropriate and offensive?"
His post received about 20 comments, with most netizens saying that they found it offensive.
