SINGAPORE – A 65-year-old man was taken unconscious to hospital after a hit-and-run accident involving his motorcycle and a van on the KJE on April 7.

The accident occurred on the part of the expressway towards the PIE, after the Jalan Bahar exit, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said. Both SCDF and the police said they were alerted to the accident at about 5.30pm that day.

The man was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and police investigations are ongoing.

The number of accidents involving motorcyclists increased by 4.7 per cent in 2024, from 3,792 cases to 3,969 cases, according to the police’s latest annual report on the road traffic situation here.

The number of motorcyclist and pillion rider casualties rose by 4.7 per cent, from 4,303 persons in 2023 to 4,507 persons in 2024.

Motorcycles make up only 14.7 per cent of Singapore’s total vehicle population, but 55.2 per cent of all traffic accidents involved motorcyclists or pillion riders in 2024, the report noted.
