SINGAPORE – A motorcyclist was taken to hospital after an accident with a bus in Bukit Panjang on the afternoon of Aug 15.
Responding to queries from The Straits Times, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the police said they were alerted to the traffic accident at the junction of Bukit Panjang Road and Jelebu Road at about 2.20pm on Aug 15.
A 54-year-old male motorcyclist was taken conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the authorities said.
The bus driver, a 54-year-old female, is assisting with investigations, the police said.
SMRT Buses said its bus service 75 was turning right from Bukit Panjang Road towards Jelebu Road when the accident happened.
It added that there were no reported injuries among the passengers on board the bus. All passengers were transferred safely to another bus to continue their journey, SMRT Buses said.
Mr Vincent Gay, the company’s deputy managing director, said: “Our care team is reaching out to the motorcyclist to provide support. We are cooperating with the police in their investigation.”
Photos posted on Singapore Roads Accident.com’s Facebook page show the aftermath of the accident. A green motorcycle is seen resting on its side in front of a green bus bearing the SMRT logo.
The front bumper of the bus appears dented and its windscreen cracked. The motorcycle also seems damaged. Debris is seen scattered on the road at the accident site.
In a video posted on SG Road Vigilante’s Facebook page, the motorcycle appears to be going straight through the junction, and the bus from the opposite direction is seen turning right, just before the collision. The traffic light facing the motorcyclist looks red, while the right-turn arrow appears to be green.
The motorcyclist is then seen rolling on the ground as the bike falls, before getting up onto his knees.
Police investigations are ongoing.
