SMRT to open Bus Training and Evaluation Centre
SMRT will officially open its Bus Training and Evaluation Centre, which the public transport operator developed with the help of the Employment and Employability Institute and the National Transport Workers' Union. Singapore's President Tony Tan, on the fourth day of his six-day state visit to China this week, will on Thursday visit the Huawei Executive Briefing Centre in Beijing and will be shown the latest technology by the world's No 4 handset maker. In the evening, he will meet with the Singaporean community in Beijing at a hotel reception. In Tianjin on Wednesday, Dr Tan was conferred an honorary doctorate by Nankai University, the alma mater of China's founding premier, in recognition of his contributions to bilateral ties. Dr Tan on Tuesday visited the National Library of China, where he and his wife Mary Tan presented 300 Singapore-themed books to the library, under the National Library Board of Singapore's SG50 Gift of Books project. The Tianjin stop also saw them taking an 80-minute tour of the National Museum of China. - TEO CHENG WEE
