Malaysia's central bank governor to make first public appearance amid 1MDB scandal

Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz will announce Malaysia's second quarter GDP figures on Thursday, in her first public appearance since a high-level multi-agency team involving the central bank began investigating allegations that US$700 million (S$982 million) of funds linked to troubled state investor 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) were deposited in Prime Minister Najib Razak’s account. At the GDP press conference, Ms Zeti will likely address the alarming drop of the ringgit’s value in recent weeks as well as questions over the large sums that entered Mr Najib's accounts.
