SINGAPORE – Two men were arrested separately on Jan 9, with one found with almost 2kg of heroin and the other with about 1.3kg of cannabis, among other drugs.
In a statement on Jan 10, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said cash and more than $254,000 worth of drugs were seized during the raids. The drugs could potentially feed the addiction of around 1,200 abusers for a week, said the bureau.
Anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin, or more than 500g of cannabis, may face the death penalty.
In one case, CNB said its officers forced their way into a residential unit in Upper Cross Street in the early hours of Jan 9 after one of the men – a suspected drug trafficker – refused to let the officers in.

The 59-year-old was arrested and around 1,965g of heroin, 118g of Ice, two bottles of methadone, various drug utensils, $32,378 in cash and US$1 (S$1.37) were recovered from the unit.
On the same morning, officers raided another residential unit in Pasir Ris Street 71 and arrested a 50-year-old man, said CNB.
Around 1,378g of cannabis and various drug utensils were recovered from the unit, along with $7,594 in cash and about $434 worth of Malaysian ringgit, Indonesian rupiah, Saudi riyal and Egyptian pound.
Investigations are ongoing, said CNB.
