SINGAPORE - A 45-year-old man is due to be charged in court on July 26 with various offences including the possession of a gun and multiple weapons.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly shot metal pellets at signage along Jelapang Road in Bukit Panjang with a catapult, said the police on July 25. The pellets, shot from the man’s Housing Board flat, had damaged the windows of nearby units.
The police said they were alerted to the incident following reports from residents, and identified the suspect following ground inquiries. The man was arrested in Jelapang Road on May 2, 2023.
Officers found and seized an assortment of pellets, liquid gel balls, two samurai swords, seven catapults, four airsoft pistols and a replica rifle. Modified boxes, believed to be used for target practice, were also seized.
The man will be charged with committing a rash act, the possession of a gun without a licence, the possession of an offensive weapon and the possession of a scheduled weapon.
If found guilty of possessing a gun without a licence, he can be jailed for up to three years and fined up to $5,000 for each gun.
If convicted of committing a rash act, he can be jailed for up to six months, fined up to $2,500, or both.
If found guilty of possessing an offensive weapon, he can be jailed for up to two years, fined, or both.
Meanwhile, for the offence of possessing a scheduled weapon, he can be jailed for up to five years and caned at least six times.
“The police have zero tolerance for such brazen and reckless acts, which could have potentially caused hurt to members of the public,” said the police. “We will not hesitate to take stern action against those who blatantly disregard the law.”
