Man trapped after tipper truck crashes into tree on East Coast Parkway

SINGAPORE - A man his 30s was trapped in a tipper truck after the vehicle crashed into a tree on the East Coast Parkway (ECP) early Friday morning (Feb 23).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the accident on the Changi-bound side of the expressway, near the Tanjong Katong Road exit, at about 6am.

Officers from the elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Dart) rescued the man, who was trapped in the driver's seat, using hydraulic rescue tools.

He was taken to Changi General Hospital.

The accident caused traffic congestion on the expressway during the morning peak hour.

The Land Transport Authority first tweeted of the accident at 6am and told motorists to avoid the third and fourth lanes.

An hour later, it told motorists to avoid the second lane as well.The congestion cleared at about 10am.
