SINGAPORE – A man is slated to be charged on July 30 for his involvement in an accident in November 2024 that damaged the ceiling of the CTE tunnel.

In a statement on July 29, the police said the accident on Nov 8, 2024, caused extensive damage to the height limit barrier and the mechanical and electrical units of the tunnel, amounting to about $1.4 million.

The police said investigations showed the 55-year-old man was driving a lorry with a raised crane attachment when it knocked into the height limit barrier and the tunnel upon entering the slip road along Cairnhill Road into the CTE tunnel.

The driver was arrested on the same day

for driving a heavy vehicle that exceeded 4.5m in height without a police escort, and for his involvement in the accident.

Vehicle owners and drivers of heavy vehicles exceeding the height of 4.5m must use police or auxiliary police escorts, the police said. Drivers should plan their routes carefully to avoid height-restricted roads and structures, they added.
