Man arrested in connection with attempted armed robbery in lift in Tampines

SINGAPORE - A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery at Block 493D Tampines Street 43 early on Friday (June 29).

The police received a report at about 12.40am that a man armed with a knife had entered a lift with a 20-year-old female and attempted to rob her.

His identity was established after officers from the Bedok Police Division conducted inquiries and viewed police cameras.

He was subsequently arrested in Tampines Street 43.

Facebook user Anisah Azmi, who identified herself as the victim in the attempted robbery, related how the man had grabbed her from the back in the lift, before whipping out a knife.

She said in a Facebook post on Friday that she suffered a small laceration on her right hand and needed stitches.

The man will be charged in court. He faces up to seven years in jail and more than 12 strokes of the cane if convicted.
