SINGAPORE - A 37-year-old man will be charged in court on April 7, after he allegedly stole from several shops at Changi Airport.
The police said on April 6 that they were alerted on March 23 to a missing handbag from a shop in the airport’s transit area.
Officers from the Airport Police Division identified the man, an Indian national, through ground inquiries and CCTV footage.
The man was detained within 30 minutes of the report being made, preventing him from leaving Singapore.
The police said preliminary investigations showed the man was believed to have been involved in several shop theft cases involving items such as watches, shirts, chocolates and accessories from four other shops. The value of the items totalled over $1,670.
He is set to be charged with theft in dwelling, and if convicted, faces a jail sentence of up to seven years, a fine, or both.
There have been at least five reported theft cases in Changi Airport so far in 2025. The most recent case involved a woman who was arrested on suspicion of stealing bottles of perfume from two shops on March 15.
